Iran (IMNA) – Mirhadi announced on Sunday that 10 additional victims have been identified since the last update, bringing the total confirmed fatalities to 46.
DNA samples have been collected from the remaining unidentified bodies as well as from close relatives of the deceased to aid in identification efforts. The results will be announced once genetic data is matched and clarified, Mirhadi noted.
Official sources report that the total death toll from the April 26 explosion stands at 70. Initially, 33 victims were identified, a figure that had risen to 36 before the latest update.
The explosion occurred after a fuel tanker detonated at the port, causing a massive fire that was subsequently extinguished. The blast caused extensive damage and was felt across a wide area in Bandar Abbas. Shahid Rajaee Port is a critical commercial hub in southern Iran, and the incident has had significant repercussions for the region.
