Iran’s Foreign Minister Engages in Constructive Talks with Saudi Counterpart

Iran (IMNA) – During the meeting, both ministers called for an immediate cessation of hostilities against Gaza and Lebanon, urging for humanitarian aid to be delivered swiftly to displaced individuals, as stated by Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei on X.

Araghchi arrived in Riyadh on Wednesday to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis resulting from Israel’s military actions in Gaza and Lebanon. He emphasized the necessity of halting Israeli operations to prevent further escalation of tensions in the region.

Highlighting his recent visits to Lebanon and Syria, Araghchi called for mobilizing political resources from regional countries to stop the violence and destruction affecting innocent civilians and infrastructure.

Prince Faisal expressed a shared commitment to maintaining regional stability and security, affirming Saudi Arabia’s readiness to cooperate in this regard. Araghchi reiterated Iran’s dedication to expanding relations with neighboring countries to enhance regional security, stability, and prosperity, while also stressing the importance of implementing existing agreements between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi minister echoed this sentiment, emphasizing his country’s commitment to advancing the progress made over the past year in strengthening bilateral ties.

In addition to his discussions with Prince Faisal, Araghchi met with Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman during his visit. This trip follows Iran’s missile strike on Israeli-occupied territories, which was a response to the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, and Iranian military advisor General Abbas Nilforoushan.

In Beirut, Araghchi stated that Tehran supports efforts for a “simultaneous” ceasefire in both Lebanon and Gaza. Since October 2023, Israeli military actions have resulted in the deaths of over 42,000 Palestinians in Gaza, while at least 2,000 people have been killed in Lebanon due to ongoing bombardments.

The Israeli regime has expressed its desire to end Hezbollah’s operations in solidarity with Gaza; however, Hezbollah has vowed not to cease its attacks until the violence against Gaza concludes.

The meeting in Riyadh marks a significant step in the ongoing dialogue between Iran and Saudi Arabia as both nations navigate their complex relationship amidst regional conflicts.
