Iran (IMNA) – Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated on Tuesday that Tehran’s response options have been developed in coordination with the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI).
Baghaei criticized the recent IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi’s report on Iran’s nuclear program, which accused Iran of failing to report nuclear activities at three undeclared sites and raised concerns about its stockpile of uranium enriched up to 60 percent. He described Grossi’s report as politically motivated, serving the agendas of the United States and its European allies, and said the IAEA chief should instead condemn threats from the US and Israel rather than justify them. Baghaei reaffirmed that Iran’s nuclear program remains peaceful and compliant with the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and IAEA standards.
Iranian officials have previously condemned the confidential IAEA report, warning that politically motivated actions could jeopardize Tehran’s cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog. Despite repeated accusations, the IAEA’s own findings have attested to the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear activities.
Earlier on Tuesday, Mohammad Eslami, head of the AEOI, dismissed Grossi’s remarks as lacking technical and legal validity, accusing him of echoing psychological operations conducted by Israel against Iran. Eslami said Grossi revealed his true character by aligning with those waging psychological warfare on Iran.
Iran, the most-vetted member of the IAEA, has categorically rejected any pursuit or possession of nuclear weapons on moral and religious grounds. The current tensions have escalated amid reports that European countries plan to push the IAEA to adopt a resolution against Iran, which could trigger the “snapback” of UN sanctions under the 2015 nuclear deal. The IAEA Board of Governors is scheduled to consider such a resolution during its session next Monday.
Baghaei emphasized that Iran’s reaction to confrontation will not be increased cooperation but rather a set of prepared steps, and warned that the European powers and the US would bear responsibility for the consequences of their confrontational measures. He also noted that the latest IAEA report contains no new evidence of non-compliance or deviation from peaceful nuclear activities, asserting that peaceful uranium enrichment is Iran’s legal right under the NPT.
The campaign against Iran’s nuclear program, including allegations of undeclared nuclear activities and increased uranium enrichment, has been characterized by Tehran as politically driven and aimed at reviving closed cases to pressure Iran. Iranian officials have warned that any such extralegal actions will be met with strong and proportionate responses, though specific measures have not been detailed.
This development comes as Iran prepares for further nuclear discussions with the United States while facing increasing scrutiny and diplomatic pressure from Western nations and their allies.
