Iran (IMNA) – During an interview with Oman’s state television on a recent visit to the Persian Gulf country, Pezeshkian emphasized, “If they want to be sure [that we are not in pursuit of nuclear weapons], we are ready for any cooperation to ensure the world and the region know that we are not, have never been, and will never be seeking nuclear weapons.”

He highlighted a fatwa issued by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, which explicitly prohibits Iran from pursuing nuclear weapons. “The leadership in the Islamic Republic’s establishment has stood against production of nuclear weapons, and we are, by no means, moving towards nuclear arms in our military doctrine,” Pezeshkian added.

The president confirmed that Iran will continue uranium enrichment strictly for peaceful purposes such as medical treatment and diagnosis, agricultural development, and industrial advancement. He stressed that this is in line with international law and that Iran will never accept demands to halt its enrichment activities. “This is a source of pride for the country’s Islamic establishment,” he said, affirming Iran’s commitment to using peaceful nuclear energy for development.

Addressing ongoing negotiations, Pezeshkian reiterated that Iran welcomes talks aimed at lifting Western sanctions but insists on maintaining its atomic independence. “The conditions are the same as international law dictates. Every country has the right to conduct scientific research on uranium enrichment and the peaceful use of nuclear energy,” he noted.

Responding to U.S. demands for Iran to reduce its enrichment to zero and dismantle its nuclear facilities, Pezeshkian advised Washington to abandon pressure tactics. “Any country in the world that respects us, we will respect them [back]. There must be a win-win relationship,” he asserted.

On the regional front, Pezeshkian praised Oman’s mediation role in facilitating Iran’s progress during the indirect talks with the United States since April. He highlighted that Iran and Oman enjoy the highest level of political cooperation and share similar views on regional issues, including the Palestinian cause.

Regarding economic ties, Pezeshkian acknowledged the challenges posed by U.S. and allied sanctions but confirmed both countries have agreed to work together to overcome these obstacles and aim to increase bilateral trade to between $10 and $20 billion. He also expressed confidence that Iran could maintain such fraternal relations with all countries willing to cooperate.
