Iran Stresses Indirect Format for US Talks Amid Sanctions Dispute

RoshanayRah-EN;؛

Iran(I–MNA) – Baghaei emphasized that the format of the talks would remain indirect, with Oman acting as mediator, while the specific venue is yet to be finalized. He stated, “The location of the negotiations is not the main issue; what is important is the continuation of the form and framework of interaction between Iran and the United States, which will continue indirectly and with the mediation of Oman.”

Baghaei criticized contradictory statements from American officials as a key reason for maintaining indirect talks. He further underscored that Iran finds it unacceptable to pursue negotiations while facing ongoing threats and sanctions. “One cannot claim to seek negotiations while continuing the policy of pressure, sanctions, and threats. This approach is absolutely unacceptable,” he asserted.

The discussions are expected to focus on Iran’s nuclear program and its demand for lifting sanctions. Baghaei reiterated Iran’s stance that its nuclear activities are peaceful and accused Western powers of using the issue to create unnecessary crises over two decades. He declared that Iran’s primary objective remains the removal of “cruel and illegal sanctions” imposed on its nation.

Baghaei concluded by reaffirming Iran’s commitment to diplomacy but stressed that its positions have been clearly stated multiple times in prior negotiations.
