Iran (IMNA) – During the meeting, Araghchi praised the longstanding and robust relations between Tehran and Muscat, highlighting Oman’s responsible approach to regional developments. He expressed gratitude for Oman hosting the indirect Iran-US talks, considering it a testament to Muscat’s diplomatic role. Al Busaidi reciprocated by describing Iran-Oman relations as privileged and thanked Tehran for selecting Muscat as the venue for these critical discussions.
The Omani foreign minister briefed Araghchi on arrangements for the talks, while the Iranian diplomat outlined Iran’s positions for transmission to the American side. Earlier in the day, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei emphasized Tehran’s commitment to defending its national interests during the negotiations.
The indirect talks come amid heightened tensions following former US President Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2018 and his recent return to office. Trump has signaled interest in negotiating a new deal while maintaining pressure on Iran.
