Iran (IMNA) – Pezeshkian expressed his deep concern over the escalating tensions in Lebanon’s southern border with the occupied Israeli territories, which have been running high since a deadly rocket attack on Saturday.
According to reports, the alleged attack, which killed 12 people and injured 40 others in the town of Majdal Shams in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, was blamed on Hezbollah by Israel. However, the Islamic Resistance has categorically denied all allegations, calling them false.
Since the incident, there have been ongoing exchanges of fire across the border, but they appear to be part of a routine tit-for-tat exchange that has continued over the past ten months. The situation remains tense, with fears growing that Israel may use the incident as a pretext to launch a full-scale attack on Lebanon.
Israel launched a fresh wave of strikes against Lebanon on Monday, citing the need to hit back against Hezbollah. The move has heightened fears in the region that Israel may use the recent rocket attack on the Golan Heights as a pretext to launch a full-scale offensive on Lebanon.
In related news, Israel’s “security cabinet” has granted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Minister of Military Affairs, Yoav Gallant, the authority to determine the nature and timing of a military response following the Saturday attack. The decision was made after a meeting on Sunday night, where cabinet members discussed the escalating tensions along the border.
Meanwhile, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed his country’s readiness to improve relations with France based on principles of honesty and confidence-building. French President Emmanuel Macron, in turn, expressed hope that Iran will promote ties with France and other European countries during Pezeshkian’s tenure.
