Iran (IMNA) – The 37-kilometer railway connects the city of Rasht to the Caspian Sea, completing the Qazvin-Rasht rail route and enhancing connectivity among Iran, the Caspian Sea littoral states, and the railway network southward.

The project is part of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), which aims to connect the Persian Gulf to the Caspian Sea via rail. The railway is expected to provide a more efficient and cost-effective mode of transportation for freight and passengers, boosting regional trade and economic ties.

Iran’s Acting President Mohammad Mokhber, Russian aide Igor Levitin, Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev, and other officials attended the inauguration ceremony. Mokhber emphasized Iran’s prominent position in the West Asia region, stating that no country can ignore its positions while making important decisions. He also praised Iran’s membership in international organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the BRICS group, highlighting its cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union.

The Rasht-Caspian Railway is seen as a significant development in regional transport networks, enhancing connectivity and facilitating trade links among Iran, the Caspian Sea littoral states, and the railway network southward.
