Iran (IMNA) – Pezeshkian made these remarks during a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, who arrived in Tehran for an official visit amid heightened regional tensions. Mishustin was accompanied by a high-ranking delegation of officials and heads of economic organizations.
The Iranian president highlighted the agreement to transform Iran into a transit and gas hub as a prime example of joint cooperation aimed at securing common interests and achieving sustainable development in the region. He noted that the exchange of diplomatic delegations between Iran and Russia would further enhance bilateral interactions.
Pezeshkian emphasized that regional cooperation within international organizations such as BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) would empower independent countries, including Iran, Russia, and China, to confront U.S. unilateralism.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also commented on the growing trade links between Moscow and Tehran, stating, “Our trade and economic relations with Iran are developing in all areas, and in trade too. The volume of trade is growing mutually.”
During the meeting, President Pezeshkian warned that Israel is escalating tensions with direct support from the United States, which poses a common threat to the interests of regional countries. He reiterated that independent nations like Iran and Russia must accelerate their cooperation to counter such measures.
Prime Minister Mishustin expressed Moscow’s eagerness to enhance interaction with Iran across various sectors, including energy, industry, transportation, agriculture, health, and culture. He invited President Pezeshkian to participate in the upcoming BRICS summit in Russia next month.
First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref also met with Mishustin, reaffirming Iran’s commitment to promoting cooperation with Russia. Aref condemned Israeli actions in Gaza and Lebanon while highlighting the need for both nations to expand their collaboration in response to Western sanctions.
In a statement on Saturday, Russia’s Foreign Ministry condemned Israel for its actions and asserted that it would “bear full responsibility” for the consequences of its military operations in the region.
