Iran (IMNA) _ The two leaders emphasized the importance of unity among Muslim states to combat Israel’s “crimes” and end the genocide in the besieged Gaza Strip.
The conversation came as the two sides discussed the latest developments in the region, including the ongoing ceasefire negotiations. They agreed that holding a summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) would be an effective way to promote unity and cooperation among Muslim states.
The crisis in Gaza escalated on October 7, 2023, when Israel launched a “barbaric campaign of genocide” after Palestinian resistance groups conducted a surprise operation into the occupied territories. The regime has since imposed a near-total siege on the coastal territory, drastically reducing the flow of food, medicine, electricity, and water into the region.
According to reports, Israel has killed more than 40,000 Gazans, mostly women, children, and adolescents, since the start of the conflict. The international community has been criticized for its inaction in the face of this humanitarian crisis.
Iran and Malaysia’s joint condemnation of Israel’s actions is a significant development in the ongoing crisis, highlighting the need for international pressure to bring an end to the violence and restore peace to the region.
