Iran (IMNA) – Pezeshkian reiterated that Iran is committed to promoting a multipolar world and strengthening ties with Russia, which he believes will enhance global security and peace. The Iranian president also condemned Israel’s assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, calling it a blatant violation of international laws and regulations.

Shoigu echoed Pezeshkian’s sentiments, congratulating Iran on its election as president and describing the Islamic Republic as a key strategic ally of Russia in the region. The two leaders also discussed their joint efforts to create a multipolar world and ensure regional security, with Shoigu expressing satisfaction with the growing relations between their countries.

The meeting came amid heightened tensions in the region following Israel’s assassination of Haniyeh, which has been widely condemned by Tehran and Moscow. The Iranian government has vowed that the brazen act of aggression will not go unanswered.

In related developments, Iran’s Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri described the Iran-Russia relations as “strategic and deep-rooted”, and expressed determination to work on further expanding bilateral ties. The top Iranian general also welcomed the possibility of tripartite cooperation among Iran, Russia, and China.

The visit by Shoigu comes amid rising tensions in the region, with Iran vowing to respond to Israel’s aggression. The United States has also been criticized for its support of Israel’s actions, with Iran accusing Washington of seeking to draw it into conflict.

The meeting between Pezeshkian and Shoigu highlighted the growing importance of the Iran-Russia alliance in the region, with both countries seeking to promote a multipolar world and counterbalance Western powers.
