Iran (IMNA) – In 2023, Iran welcomed 5.9 million foreign tourists, a substantial rise from the 4.1 million visitors recorded in 2022. This growth comes on the heels of the tourism industry’s revival following the easing of the global coronavirus pandemic, which had a significant impact on the sector.
The UNWTO report also highlights Iran’s improved ranking in the world tourism market. While the country stood at 40th place in 2022, it has now risen to 34th position globally in terms of foreign tourist arrivals. This means that only 33 countries attracted more foreign tourists than Iran in 2023.
The top three countries in the world for foreign tourist arrivals are France, Spain, and the United States, with France leading the way by attracting 100 million visitors.
The surge in foreign tourist arrivals is a testament to Iran’s efforts to promote its rich cultural heritage, diverse landscapes, and unique attractions to the world. As the country continues to invest in its tourism infrastructure and marketing strategies, it is poised to further increase its share of the global tourism market in the years to come.
